뉴욕 브릿지 너머 행성(Planet Line over New York Bridge)
하늘이 떠오르기 전 일어나서 봐야하는 흥미로운 하늘이 있다. 동쪽 지평선을 따라서 네 행성이 한 줄로 이어져있다. 이 행성들은 도시의 밝은 하늘에서도 보일 만큼 밝다. 사실 이 사진은 미국 뉴욕 시티에서 찍은 것으로 배경에는 RFK (트라이보로우) 브릿지가 있다. 사진에 담긴 행성들은 왼쪽에서 오른쪽으로 목성, 금성, 화성, 그리고 토성이다. 이 행성들 모두 태양 주변 같은 궤도 위에서 궤도 면을 돌기 때문에 한 줄로 이어져있다. 이 면은 태양계가 초창기에 탄생하면서 만들어진 모든 행성과 지구를 포함하는 황도면이다. 아침 행성들의 퍼레이드는 4월과 5월까지 이어지며, 6월이 되면 수성까지 참여한다.
Explanation: There’s an interesting sky to see if you wake up before the Sun. Lined up on toward the eastern horizon are four planets in a row. The planets are so bright they can even be seen from the bright sky inside a city. In fact, the featured image was taken from New York City, USA, with the foreground highlighted by the RFK (Triborough) Bridge. Pictured, the planets are, left to right, Jupiter, Venus, Mars, and Saturn. The planets all appear in a row because they all orbit the Sun in the same plane. This plane, called the ecliptic plane, was created in the early days of our Solar System and includes all planets, including Earth. The morning planet parade will continue throughout April and May, and will even be joined by Mercury in June.
