하늘 위에 밝은 빛은 무엇일까? 3주 전 이탈리아 북부에서는 남서쪽으로 해가 진 후 우리 달과 멀리 행성 목성이 함께 떠오르며 인접해있는 모습을 볼 수 있었다. 산 뒤 멀리 그림 같은 모습의 장면은 UNESCO 세계 문화 유산이자 이탈리아 돌로마이트와 알프스 전체에서 가장 잘 알려진 봉우리인 트레 치메 디 라바레도 (라바레도의 세 봉우리)가 있다. 왼쪽 배경에는 가장 가까운 주차장에서 한 시간 정도 거리에 있는 지친 등산객들의 쉼터인 로케이트 힐 헛이 있다. 하늘의 왼쪽에 있는 밝은 천체는 토성이다. 위 전체 장면은 단 한 장의 8초 노출로 찍은 것이다. 이번 달 동안 해가 진 후 목성과 토성은 서쪽 하늘에서 뚜렷하게 볼 수 있고, 달은 계속 지구 주변 한 달 짜리 궤도를 돌면서 약 4일 안에 목성 근처를 다시 한 번 지나게 된다.

Explanation: What are those bright lights in the sky ahead? When hiking a high mountain pass in northern Italy three weeks ago, a conjunction between our Moon and the distant planet Jupiter was visible as both rose together in the southwest after sunset. The picturesque mountains in the distance are Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Three Peaks of Lavaredo), a UNESCO World Heritage Site and three of the best known mountain peaks in Italy, the Dolomites, and the entire Alps. In the foreground on the left is LocatelliHut, a refuge for tired hikers as it is located over an hour from nearest parking lot. The bright sky object on the upper left is Saturn. The entire scene was captured on a single 8-second exposure. Jupiter and Saturn will remain prominent in the western sky after sunset this month, while the Moon, in its monthly orbit around the Earth, will pass near Jupiter again in about four days.
