오로라 나무(The Aurora Tree)

과연 당신의 나무도 이럴 수 있을까? 사진에 담긴 것은 가까운 나무의 어두운 나뭇가지와 훨씬 멀리 밝은 오로라가 우연히 겹친 장면이다. 마치 주변의 나무를 흉내내는 듯한 오로라의 아름다움은 이 사진을 찍은 사진작가가에 잊을 수 없는 순간을 안겨주었다. 절묘한 각도에서 보면 오로라가 마치 나뭇잎처럼 보인다. 운 좋게도 오로라가 다른 둥근 형상으로 아른거리기 전 그는 이 우연한 순간의 모습을 포착해냈다. 보통 태양 폭발로 인해서 발생하는 오로라는 약 150km 높이 정도의 지구 대기권에 고에너지 전자가 부딪힐 때 만들어진다. 이 독특한 지구와 하늘의 합작은 2017년 3월 아이슬란드에서 포착되었다. 

Explanation: Yes, but can your tree do this? Pictured is a visual coincidence between the dark branches of a nearby tree and bright glow of a distant aurora. The beauty of the aurora — combined with how it seemed to mimic a tree right nearby — mesmerized the photographer to such a degree that he momentarily forgot to take pictures. When viewed at the right angle, it seemed that this tree had aurora for leaves. Fortunately, before the aurora morphed into a different overallshape, he came to his senses and capture the awe-inspiring momentary coincidence. Typically triggered by solar explosions, aurora are caused by high energy electrons impacting the Earth’s atmosphere around 150 kilometers up. The unusual Earth-sky collaboration was witnessed in March of 2017 in Iceland.
