요세미티에서 본 여섯 행성 (Six Planets from Yosemite)

맨눈으로 볼 수 있는 다섯개의 행성, 수성, 금성, 화성, 목성, 그리고 토성의 모습은 고대 이후로 쭉 지구의 하늘에서 볼 수 있다. 여기 잔잔하고 맑은 호수와 함께 맨눈으로도 볼 수 있는 여섯 개의 행성의 모습은 아주 인상적이다. 맘껏 보시라. 아주 밝아서 하늘 광팬들이 찾기 쉬운 노란 화성이 어두운 은하수 왼쪽에 자리하고 있다. 토성은 은하수의 뿌연 별빛 너머에 섞여 있다. 목성은 지평선 아주 가까이 오른쪽에서 밝게 빛나며 멀리 밝은 도시 불빛과 사이에서 나무 위에 자리한 채 빛나고 있다. 지난주 주말, 이 아름다운 밤시간 동안 요세미티 국립 공원에서 아주 높은 곳에 자리한 테나야 호수 장면 속에서 사려깊고 사색적인 관측자라면 아마 행성 세 개를 더 찾을 수 있을 것이다.
Explanation: The five naked-eye planets, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, have been seen since ancient times to wander the night skies of planet Earth. So it could be remarkable that on this night, standing at the side of a clear, calm lake, six planets can be seen with the unaided eye. Have a look. Very bright and easy to spot for skygazers, yellowish Mars is left of a pale Milky Way. Saturn is immersed in the glow of the Milky Way’s diffuse starlight. Jupiter is very near the horizon on the right, shining beyond the trees against the glow of distant city lights. Last weekend, while admiring this night time view across beautiful, high-altitude Lake Tenaya in Yosemite National Park, a thoughtful and reflective observer could probably see three planets more.
