지난 밤 보름달을 보았는가? 보지 못했다면 오늘밤 거의 보름달에 가까운 달의 모습을 봐야 할 것이다. 보름달은 태양 정 반대편에 위치하기 때문에 거의 밤새 내내 태양이 하늘에서 사라진 동안 구름이 허락하는 한 오랜 시간 볼 수 있다. 6월의 보름달을 부르는 별명 중 하나인 스트로베리 문은 지구의 북반구에서 야생 딸기가 익는 계절을 의미한다. 지구 전역의 다른 문화권에 걸쳐 이 보름달은 허니문과 로즈문 등 다른 이름으로 불린다. 위 사진 속 배경에는 어젯밤 촬영했던 그리스의 케이프 사우니온에 위치한 2,400년 된 포세이돈의 신전이 담겨있다. 다음 달에는 인류가 처음 달에 착륙한 50주년이 찾아온다.

One nickname for June’s full moonis the Strawberry Moon, named for when wild strawberriesstart to ripen in parts of Earth‘s northern hemisphere. Different cultures around the globe give this full moondifferent names, though, including Honey Moon and Rose Moon. In the foreground of this featured image, taken yesterday in Cape Sounion, Greece, is the 2,400 year-old Temple of Poseidon. Next month will the 50th anniversaryof the time humans first landed on the Moon.
